So what’s the catch?
Well, I’m an author as anyone who visits this site surely knows, and that means I write books. But to sell them I need to let people know these books exist.
A mailing list is one of the most effective ways to do that. This direct marketing approach is great because people have already told you they want you to contact them.
Well, in this case you just want that free book. So what do I get? Well, each month I get to send you a newsletter. Yeah, not too exciting, huh?
Well, with this newsletter you’ll be able to see which books I released the past month, which blog posts I put up on my two sites, and also about some ESL stuff. Here’s what my newsletter from January looked like:
Of course by that point I hope you’ll have read one of my other books and perhaps liked it. Maybe you’ll buy some more.
Selling books is a lot like teaching ESL. See, your students have to come into contact with a word about 7 to 10 times before they learn it.
It’s the same with books and marketing. People have to see a product about 7 to 10 times before buying it.
So how many times have you been exposed? If you’re reading this blog you’ve seen my books, so that’s once. Maybe you looked at them on Amazon or iTunes, so that’s two. Perhaps you visited the site again, that’s three. And then the email, that’s four.
You can see that you’re getting pretty close to buying that book, just like your students would be pretty close to learning that word. Pretty cool, huh?
The free book I’m talking about will be released this week sometime and how you’ll get a free copy is on Smashwords. I’ll send you a code, you can go to the site and enter it, and then choose any book format you want, whether for the Kindle, iPad, or just your home computer.
