No matter where you’re teaching in the world your students will know sports. That’s why this is one of the go-to lessons for all new ESL teachers, and an old favorite for the more experienced folks.
I did a sports lesson for each age group I taught and across all skill levels in the 5 years I taught English in China. There are hundreds of ways to go about teaching sports, but a few things are common across all lessons.
These include things like vocabulary, pictures, grammar, and of course games. The following chapter will show you slides from two different ESL sports PowerPoints I used throughout the years, one made by me and another by a fellow ESL teacher.
I’ve used them both as well as lots of extras not here. Hopefully they’ll give you some ideas on what you can do to get your kids not only speaking English, but making improvements in it as well.

For this PowerPoint I followed a simple format: 1 picture slide, 1 explanation slide, and then 1 picture slide again. So for a PPT like this you’d have 33 slides alone for the different sports.
These next few pictures show you a few game slides from this PPT, which you can buy on this website for $0.99. I’m sure you can take these ideas and make your own games as well, however, and I bet your students will be smiling and laughing a lot at what you can come up with.
